Soweto Giants At It Again

The biggest tournament in the world is over and now it’s time to focus on our local football. All the roads lead to Soweto come Saturday afternoon.

The two Soweto giants Kaizer Chief and Orlando pirates will be facing each other at the calabash stadium otherwise known as FNB stadium. The tickets for the much-anticipated match have been sold out. The Carling Black Label cup is the annual tournament where sports fans are given an opportunity to select their first eleven in the starting line up and a fan will be a coach on each side.

Kaizer Chiefs is frustrating their fans by not signing quality players and are struggling to snatch back the Zimbabwean striker Knowledge ‘the smiling assassin’ Musona. Chiefs have signed a player who was a free agent Siphelele Mthembu after his contract ended with Platinum Stars and Levy Mokgothu from Moroka swallows. They’ve also renewed Josta Dladla’s contract with one year while Simphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker will be unavailable for selection.

If a storyline of particular show is predictable, then that leaves the audience with no other option but to keep hopping channels looking for something better to watch. Producers  need to understand that the audience enjoy a good script.

The new season of Skeem Saam started on the 14th of July. The good news for the followers of this youthful story is that it’ll now be broadcasted from Monday to Friday at 18:30.  The story is shot in Limpopo at a place called Turfloop. It tells the real stories that young  people encounter at their homes, schools and on the outside world. There is betrayal, hate and teenage pregnancy. It will be good to teach young people about the realities of life and make them aware of the hardships of life. Since inception, the story has grown with each episode.  Etv’s Rhythm city now has a real competitor one could say.

Not only from my hometown but from across the country. Talented youngsters, especially those with brilliant soccer skills, are faced with many challenges on a daily so I partnered with PUMA and The George Municipality in making this tournament a reality.
