Why Is Gaza Under Siege ??

Written by Super User.

The Gaza strip is in the Palestinian region on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea that borders Egypt on the southwest and Israel on the east border.

The Gaza Strip is a tiny and crowded Arab enclave with about 1.8 million people jammed in.

The war is clearly over territorial control. The Gaza strip has been a hugely contested ground which the Arabs and the Jews have fought tirelessly for. In 1994, Israel granted the right of self-governance to Gaza through the Palestinian Authority. Prior to this, Gaza had been subject to military occupation, most recently by Israel (1967–94) and by Egypt (1958–67). Since 2007, the Gaza Strip has been de-facto governed by Hamas, a Palestinian group claiming to be the representatives of the Palestinian National Authority and the Palestinian people.

What is Mandela Day

Written by Super User.

Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on 18 July, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly. It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”.

It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better. That is what the description on the Mandeladay.co.za website states but really "What is Mandela Day?"
